A single-table tournament is exactly that - a tournament played on one table with up to ten players. These are run on a fill and go basis. As players register the seats fill up and as soon as a table is full the tournament starts. There are no break periods. Tournaments will continue until they are finished. Three prizes are paid; the winner takes 50%, second 30% and third 20%*. Wide ranges of buy in stakes are offered and these can be seen by checking the "Tournaments" tab in the lobby.
Tournaments differ from cash games in several ways. While the general playing of the game remains the same there are certain rules that apply to tournaments only.
Disconnections
If for any reason a Player loses his/her connection, play will continue. Blinds and antes will continue to be posted automatically. A Player should log back on as soon as possible to continue play. Players will be blinded/anted out of the tournament if they do not reconnect.
Players MUST accept the risk of disconnection. This can and does occur. (Log back on and continue play as quickly as possible.) At no time will we assume responsibility for disconnected players regardless of cause. If a Player is disconnected during the play of a hand, they will be given a period of time in which to re-connect - about 30 seconds. If the player is not able to do so, their hand is folded unless they are "all in". If you choose to sit out, you are deemed 'away from the table' and will still receive cards that will be folded in turn. Blinds will also continue to be taken when appropriate. If you time-out or disconnect, you will be automatically marked 'away from the table' until you uncheck the appropriate box and re-join the game.
Play
You can join by clicking the "Tournament" tab in the lobby and choosing a tournament that is still open for registration. When your chosen tournament starts your table will open automatically. All seats are assigned randomly. Please bear in mind that if you're already playing in the maximum number of tables allowed you'll be presented with a dialog box asking you whether you'd like to quit one of the tables so the tournament table launches. You will be marked 'away from the table' until you join the tournament table. Blinds increase at regular intervals as the tournament progresses and are termed 'levels'. Unlike cash games, blinds must be posted and cannot be missed. This is done automatically. To make it fair for everyone a dead button is sometimes used to achieve this.
The software will keep tables balanced in terms of the number of players seated at each; consequently, as players are eliminated, you may be re-seated at a different table. As this is done randomly you may experience it several times during a tournament. As the number of players remaining reduces, the software will close tables in order of the highest available until the final table is reached. Once a player loses all their chips they are automatically removed from the table unless a 'Buy In' facility is available. Buy In' Tournaments provide the facility to purchase a new set of chips for a limited time if you go broke.
Not all grand finals will be displayed in the poker client immediately; posting will occur about a week prior to the start time of a tourney. Players who have qualified will be shown on the Web site, though that information may lag by up to a week.
All STT satellites (feeders) to MTT finals pay no cash prize, the prize pool pays for the seat in the final, and only first place gets any prize.
MTTs that award non-cash prizes such as seats to another MTT, or to an off-site event, award that prize to as many top finishers as possible, and any remaining prize pool less than that non-cash prize is paid as cash to the next finisher's cage account. For example, if the prize pool for a grand final, with a guaranteed package prize of $12,500 is $28,550, two non-cash prizes of $12,500 each are awarded to 1st and 2nd place. The 3rd place wins $3,550.
You must be of legal age in your place of residence and in the jurisdiction of the offsite tournament to win a seat and expenses. No cash or other substitutions. In the event an ineligible person wins, management reserves the right to award the prize to another player by the mechanism of management's choosing. If the intended offsite tournament is, for any reason, cancelled or materially changed, management reserves the right to award a comparable prize or cash, at management's discretion.
Any player who wins an entry to any subsequent tournament via a qualifying single or multi-table feeder tournament must take that seat. No cash payouts will be made, except where a player has already registered for the target tournament. In the event a player wins more than one seat for any given tournament, cash will be paid as the prize beyond the first seat won. Seats are non- transferable, including seats in off-site tournaments.
By entering these satellite tournaments series, each player agrees that if s/he wins a seat in an off-site tournament s/he will represent the poker room by wearing branded apparel, including, but not limited to, shirts and hats during table play. Further, winners agree to participate in scheduled photo opportunities, press conferences, interviews, and other publicity-oriented activities such receptions, parties, etc., again while wearing branded apparel. This obligation extends for a period of 12 months from time of end of the offsite tournament. The poker room will be responsible for any costs associated in meeting these obligations.
Should the off-site tournament be subsequently televised, qualifiers must agree to be filmed at the discretion of the organizers of the event.
An online qualifier, or satellite, is a smaller tournament in which the prize is entry into larger online tournaments, or major offline events - like the World Poker Tour championships in Las Vegas.
The advantage of satellite tournaments is that they are inexpensive to enter compared to the larger multi-table tournaments. For example, buy-in for a multi-table tournament could be $220, whereas entry into a satellite tournament could cost as little as $22. All you have to do then is win your seat at the multi-table tournament!
RailPoker is proud to offer all our players the chance to play in the best and biggest offline events around the world. Signup and play for online qualifiers is identical to non-satellite tournaments, and you'll find regular satellites on the RailPoker schedule, in the form of both single and multi-table tournaments.
